How the wheel spacer calculator works

A spacer moves the wheel mounting face away from the hub. The calculator converts that change into effective offset, outward movement, inner-clearance gain and total axle track change. It describes geometry only; it does not approve a spacer or installation.

Formula and assumptions

Effective offset equals stamped wheel offset minus spacer thickness. A 15 mm spacer therefore changes an ET45 wheel to a theoretical effective offset of ET30. The wheel moves 15 mm outward, gains 15 mm of nominal suspension-side clearance, and using equal spacers on both sides increases track width by about 30 mm.

Worked example

For an 8.5-inch ET45 wheel with a 15 mm spacer, enter 8.5, 45 and 15. The result reports ET30 effective offset and 15 mm outward movement. If you also enter measured clearances, the calculator shows the simple remaining dimensional estimate after that movement.

What to verify physically

Verify hub engagement, fastener length or spacer hardware, brake and fender clearance, wheel load requirements, manufacturer instructions and local rules. A dimensional result cannot establish mechanical suitability.

Frequently asked questions

Does a spacer reduce wheel offset?

In dimensional terms, yes. Spacer thickness is subtracted from the stamped offset to obtain effective offset.

Does a 10 mm spacer move the wheel exactly 10 mm outward?

The mounting position changes by 10 mm. Actual tire and body clearance still depend on real component dimensions and movement.
